Certified Mental Toughness Facilitator™ are fully trained to be able to:

  • Psychologically profile and give feedback to their team and/or clients using the Mental Toughness Profile™ and accompanying Mental Toughness Team Report™ for groups of individuals, and; 
  • Facilitate and provide training for their team(s) and/or clients to utilize evidence-based, proven mental strategies to be more resilient in a small or large group workshop setting.

3 Steps to Mental Toughness

  

Pre-Course Profiling All participants will complete an online Mental Toughness Profile™ questionnaire. Report generated includes:

  • A summary chart of one's scores on the respective mental toughness competencies,
  • A description and explanation of one's individualized scores, and
  • Practical and evidence-based strategies and exercises to help further strengthen one's mental toughness.

The Mental Toughness Skills Training Model (Tham Weigand, 1996, 2010) was designed based on research sudies of elite performers under different domains. It includes the mental toughness skills commonly applied for consistent, high-level performance under pressure and stress. The mental toughness skills topics cover: 

Composure Staying calm and relaxed in any any pressure situation.  

Concentration Focusing on performing and ignoring distractions when it matters  

Confidence Having the self-belief and trust in one's capabilities

Cope-ability Overcoming adversities and setbacks well  

Cohesion Giving and receiving social support to and from others

Module 2 The 5C’S to Mental Toughness  

  • Composure Staying calm and composed under any pressure situation; Composure activities. 
  • Concentration Focusing on what matters most without being distracted; Concentration activities.
  • Confidence Having self-belief and trust during stressful situations; Confidence activities.  
  • Cope-Ability Handling mistakes and challenges when it matters; Cope-Ability activities. 
  • Cohesion Possessing a team-oriented attitude and mind-set; Cohesion activities.  

   

Module 3 Mental Toughness & Elite Performance Psychology Applications using the Mental Toughness Profile™ and Mental Toughness Team Report™  

Module 4 Case Studies, Role Plays and Ethical Issues  

Module 5 Mental Toughness Workshop facilitation using the P.L.A.Y.™ Training Methodology  

Module 6 Applied Group Project: Profile a group of clients/individuals and facilitate a mental toughness activity or training workshop for the clients  

 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the Certified Mental Toughness Facilitator™ Course, you will be able to:

Meet The Master Trainer, Edgar Tham

Edgar is Singapore's pioneer as Sport & Performance Psychologist; he has worked with more than 40 different performance domains (e.g., sports, music, performing arts, military, civil defense, business, sales, online forex/futures trading, motor racing, professional poker, etc) from the schools to world championship levels since 1993. He was employed by the Singapore Government as its very first local sport psychologist in 1995.

Edgar was the founding Head of the Sport Psychology Unit of the Singapore Sports Council in 1996. He was team consultant and traveling psychologist to numerous national teams preparing for the SEA Games, Asian Youth Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games, Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, World Championships, and ASEAN Armies Rifle Meets (till 2001). Currently, Edgar is a full-time sport & performance psychologist in private practice. He has consulted for and implemented season-long sport psychology programmes for numerous sports teams. 

In his free time, Edgar teaches part-time as an adjunct teaching faculty member of several undergraduate psychology and sport science diploma / degree courses. He is also a long-time lecturer for the Singapore Sports Council’s National Coaching Accreditation Programme in Sport Psychology (Mental Skills Training) since 1996.
