"Building mental toughness gets you to the top. Building mental wellness keep you there. The best coaches know how to work in both domains- by design."

- Edgar K. Tham

The Pioneer Who Built Both Programmes

Edgar K. Tham is not just a trainer — he is the architect of performance psychology across Southeast Asia. In 1995, the Singapore Government appointed Edgar as the nation's very first Sport Psychologist, where he established the founding Sport Psychology Department at the Singapore Sports Council.

He went on to serve as the Travelling Team Psychologist for national athletes competing at the SEA Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, Olympic Games, and Paralympic Games — personally coaching Olympic and World Championship-level athletes to achieve greatness.

Today, Edgar is the Founder and Chief Sport & Performance Psychologist of SportPsych Consulting — Southeast Asia's largest sport and performance consulting firm, with offices in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

He is also the President of the International Association for Performance Coaching & Facilitation (IAPCF) and serves as Associate Faculty at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), Ngee Ann Polytechnic CET Academy, and multiple international universities including Edinburgh Napier University (UK), University of Stirling (UK), and the University of Wollongong (Australia).

Over his 30-year career, Edgar has shared his expertise with more than 500,000 participants across sport, business, education, healthcare, military, sales, and the performing arts.

Why This Matters for You — Right Here in Malaysia

Malaysia's wellness economy is booming. The nation's health and wellness market reached USD 11.42 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to USD 17.95 billion by 2033. The corporate wellness market alone is expected to nearly double to USD 507.9 million by 2033. Yet workplace surveys consistently highlight alarming gaps in psychological safety and rising psychosocial risk across Malaysian organisations.

The demand for qualified, dual-credentialled coaches far outstrips supply.

By earning your Certified Performance Coach (CPC) and Certified Mental Wellness Coach credentials through MasteryAsia, you position yourself as a rare, dual-qualified professional who can take clients from burnout to breakthrough — from stress management to peak performance. You don't just add letters after your name; you gain a complete, science-backed coaching system that Malaysian businesses, schools, sports organisations, and individuals urgently need.

In many organisations today:

Managers are expected to coach, not just manage

HR is expected to develop people, not just manage policies

Trainers are expected to change behaviour, not just conduct training

Leaders are expected to build people, not just deliver results

Coaching is no longer a “nice-to-have” skill. It is becoming a core professional skill in leadership, HR, training, and people development.

This webinar will show you how Performance Coaching works — and how you can learn it

Edgar is also Co-Founder of SportPsych Consulting Malaysia based in Kuala Lumpur — this isn't a trainer who flies in and flies out. He has a genuine, invested stake in seeing Malaysian coaches rise.

Why Coaching Skills Are Becoming Important In The Workplace

Let’s be honest.

Many professionals today are promoted into leadership or management roles because they are good at their technical work.

But once they become leaders, managers, HR professionals, or trainers, they are expected to:

🔹Coach their team

🔹Develop people

🔹Motivate underperformers

🔹Handle difficult conversations

🔹Help staff manage stress and burnout

🔹Build high-performing teams

But the truth is — most people were never trained how to coach properly.

So what happens?

They rely on:

🔹Giving advice

🔹Telling people what to do

🔹Trial and error

🔹Personal experience

But coaching without a framework is like managing without a system.
You may try your best — but results are inconsistent.

This is why organisations today are looking for professionals who can coach performance, build mental toughness, and support mental wellness.

This is what Performance Coaching is about.
